Narcissus and Echo
Narcissus and Echo- Echo falls in love with Narcissus, but Narcissus isn't into it. Echo proceeds to pine over Narcissus until her body withers away and only her voice is left. Meanwhile, Narcissus stops for a drink at a small pond. When Narcissus sees his reflection in the water of the pool he falls hopelessly in love—with himself. Unable to capture his reflection, Narcissus stays by the pond until he starves to death. Pretty straightforward, really.
Theme/Moral of the story: Don't fall in love with yourself, put your love toward someone real. Connection to World: Most people these days, want someone good looking, not a non-good looking person. So they make themselves look good. Good enough to fall in love with themselves. |
Narcissus- He has Echo chasing after him, but once he sees himself in a reflection, he instantly falls in love with himself. Therefore, he likes himself, not anyone else.
2. How has our society become materialistic? My thoughts on how our society has become materialistic by everyone thinks life is all about money, being good looking, and the fame. First off everyone thinks life is all about having money, ever heard the saying "Money makes the world go round" ? Well everyone thinks it's true and has to stand by that. Everyone has to have money, to have friends, or your friends might not like you if you have no money, our people today are every judgmental. They pick and choose out their friends. Secondly, about being good looking, every girl/guy wants someone good looking. Well why not just look for personality? It's not all about looks. But no everyone wants just a good looking girl/guy. And lastly, the fame, if someone gets famous let's say off YouTube, they think now they are better than everyone else, and can be who they want, when they want. Like for example Justin Bieber. He became famous off of YouTube, he was just a normal teenager but then once he hit an older age, he became a little brat. He thought he was better than everyone, can buy anything he wants, and he can do what he wants, when he wants. Like no, sorry that's not how the world works. |
